Selena was almost late. She rushed down the street in her five- centimeter-high high heels, which almost made her fall over. She was wearing a black dress, diamond earrings and full makeup on her face. Today was her special day. She was planning to meet a guy, Austin, who she met on the Internet. They’ve chatted for several months, and the pictures of him that he sent her were as handsome as one could be. After breaking up with Justin a year ago, Selena believed she was finally going to meet her Mr. Right. She believed things are finally getting straight, and she would live happily ever after with her Prince Charming.

Selena got to the restaurant they were planning to meet at on time. She checked her makeup, took a deep breath, and walk towards the table they booked. To her horror, a little boy was sitting on the other end of the table. He couldn’t be over ten, wearing a normal T-shirt and shorts, and so short that his feet couldn’t even touch the ground while sitting. Anger was rising in Selena. “What are you doing here? I booked this table! Didn’t your mom teach you not to disturb others in a restaurant?” She exclaimed. The boy smiled mischievously at her “Hi, I’m Austin.”

All the emotions rushed towards Selena at once. Anger, disbelief, sadness, disappointment. “How could you be Austin? He’s handsome, kind and has a sense of humor. Where is my Austin?” Several people were glancing their way, but Selena couldn’t help breaking down. Tears were running down her cheeks. She couldn’t believe that all the Cinderella story scenes she had dreamed about had been nothing. “Your Austin was never real, it had always been me.”

Selena released a roar. She held her dress as she ran out of the restaurant, ran away from that stupid little kid, ran away from her miserable life. She had been raised in poverty. Her father died when she was young. When she managed to graduate as number one in high school, her mother got cancer and she had to give up university to take care of her mom. The only thing that went right in her life was Justin. But he left Selena heartbroken in the end. And now, even little boys are messing up Selena’s life. She had been working so hard to make things go right. After all that miserable events, she thought she deserved a happy ending. But God seemed to be teasing her, giving her twist and turns she had to overcome. When she did overcome, what was waiting her wasn’t a straight, bright path. There were more twist and turns.

Selena ran home. Tears blurred her vision. She grabbed a piece of paper and she wrote down everything she had been through. At the very end of the paper, there was one word. Bye.

The next day, on the third page of the towns’ newspaper, on the right side, under the story of the president election, there was a small column. And the title? “28-year-old woman commited suicide by jumping out of the window of her house.” The woman was wearing a black dress, diamond earrings, five-centimeter-high high heels with full makeup on her face.
